Caterpillars, Butterflies, Art and Running

This week I have been a little mad on caterpillars and butterflies. I have painted lots of caterpillars and turned them into butterflies. I made caterpillars out of Playdoh, added wings to my toy caterpillars, read story books about caterpillars and learnt about their life cycles from my new favourite book, my encyclopedia.

I have also painted quite a bit this week, here are some of my recent pictures. I painted some flowers and also a picture of Äiti. I looked at her eyes to see what colour they were. I painted lots of circle in different colours then added Äiti's eyes, yellow nose and mouth.

Today I went and watched daddy run in a race. It was a short race of 6.7km, he did well and I cheered him on. Daddy gave me his medal.

It has been a busy week, I went to a birthday party on Wednesday, watched a really boring film at Baby Cinema on Thursday and went to Gymnastics and Playgroup on Friday. I still haven't worn a nappy in the day time, I think I have done very well.

Emergent writing

My newest thing is to write short little sentences on the computer.
I like mummy to change the background colours and make the writing 'multi-coloured'.
2/4/07 'äiti and daddy go in daddy purple car'

4/4/07 'dadddddddy go to zoo, daddddy see a tiger'. I wanted a multi-coloured daddy. I copied the word 'Tiger' from a book.
Today's (25/4/07) garish effort- a tiger background! 'Sophie went swimming it was fun.'

I can write my name and spell a few sight words. Words like swim mummy just repeats and I write whatever I hear.
Words like äiti, daddy, sophie, cat, go, in, it, dog etc I have known quite a while. I seem to know that a full stop means the end of the sentence.
I don't ask to write very often, maybe once a week. On paper I get excited when I scribble and the markings look vaguely like a letter but I am a long way off writing with a pen.

I allowed mummy to video me reading!

I am still very camera phobic so don't I wont allow any pictures of me to be taken. This morning though I was in a great mood and let mummy video me reading a book.
As you'll see in the video, I read very very fast. My mind skips ahead of my mouth so I stumble a little. I am also so much clearer when I speak compared to my reading voice. If you can understand what I am reading then well done! Most of my reading is not from memory as I can point out all words when asked and I can read them in other books. Any words I don't know, I just point and wait to be told! Mummy says I need to slow down my reading pace but I just like to do it!

I went swimming today and had this conversation with mummy over NOT taking my toy caterpillar into the swimming pool:
Me- I want to take Caterpillar in the water
Äiti- No, I'd rather you left him in the locker, do you know why?
Me- He cant go in the water because he would get wet
Äiti- Exactly!

Mummy thought I used the word 'because' very well. I still didn't get to take my caterpillar in the swimming pool though.

Here is the reading translation.. 10 crunching caterpillars in the bright sunshine, one fell asleep so that left... Nine speedy Caterpillars, thought they might be late. one was too slow so that left.. 8 munching caterpillars, all in crunching heaven. one got a tummy ache so that left... 7 clever caterpillars creeping through some sticks. one got stuck so that left...6 singing caterpillars, glad to be alive. one stayed to sing, so that left...5 brave caterpilalrs, going to explore. one got lost so that left..4 daring caterpillars, inching up a tree. one fell off so that left...3 cool caterpillars, splashing in the dew. One got soaked so that left... 2 happy caterpillars, having so much fun. one got tired to that left... 1sad caterpillar, all on his own, when all of a sudden there were10 bright and beautiful, pretty butterflies spreading their wings and flitting through the skies.

I beat Mummy at Memo today!

I was playing a game called Memo today with mummy and I won! We played with 8 pairs and I found lots more pairs than mummy. It is a good game, I play a smaller version on the cbeebies website.
I also like playing a simplified version of the game UNO. Snap is also fun. I'm quite good at taking it in turns.

I went to the vets with Mog and Rosie tonight. Mog has lost a lot of weight lately. He had to have a blood test and his tummy felt. The vet found a big lump in his tummy, he has to go back to the vet next week for an ultrasound and a biopsy. I hope he is ok as I love Mog a lot.

I have now recovered from my illness and have started to eat again. I have done so well with wearing my 'big girl pants', I have been out shopping, to the vets, to the Embassy and I haven't had an accident yet! I still wear a nappy for bedtime though, but not for my daytime nap (if I decide to have one).

The other night I spilt milk on my sleeping bag so Daddy changed me into my other bag, I said 'It's not my blue sleeping bag anymore, it is my animal one now'. Daddy was quite impressed with my sentence. Other new words/phrases I've said are...multi-coloured, different, reflection, I'm thinking about..., That might have been funny!

No more nappies!

I now wear 'Big Girl Pants' in the day!

On Sunday I didn't wear a nappy but I had lots of accidents. I had been very sick on Saturday night and spent all day Sunday dehydrated so I didn't actually wee until 2.30pm. On Monday I was still dehydrated and had quite a few accidents. Mummy wanted to give up but daddy persuaded her to try a few more days. On Tuesday I had a really bad stomach flu so spent the day running to the potty. I only missed once out of 11 trips. On Wednesday I used the potty 6 times in the day and didn't have any accidents. Mummy was ill on Wednesday so I just took myself off to the potty. On Thursday Mummy still wasn't well but we went to IKEA in the evening and I used the potty there. I didn't have any accidents on Thursday either. Today I went to playgroup and then out for lunch. I only had one accident today but that was because I didn't like the potty they had at playgroup!

I now wear big girl pants that are far too big for me. I haven't eaten properly in 6 days so have lost a bit of weight.

This has been a very quiet week as I have been very ill, then mummy got ill and now daddy is showing signs of having 'man flu'. Hopefully we will all be better soon.

Sick for the first time in ages

In the middle of the night I decided that being sick was a good idea, so for 2 hours I vomited, wretched and felt unwell. I haven't been ill since I was 11 months old which is really good going. When I was last ill I had a really bad ear infection followed by rota virus. Since then I haven't been ill, mummy thinks it is due to me spending a lot of time outside.

This last week has been quite busy. I went for a playdate on Tuesday and Wednesday. Thursday I went to a birthday party and on Friday I went to gymnastics, playgroup and then out for lunch. The weather here has been really hot so I have played outside a lot.

Some good news- I got a new baby cousin. Her name is Siena Poppy and she was born on Wednesday and weighed in at 7lbs 2oz.Here is a little picture of her with my big cousin Gregor.

Of Mice and Sophie

Daddy says I can now show my Granny how to surf the internet. I can now use a mouse and navigate my way through some websites. Next week I am going to learn C++ (a very hard programming languge). Here I am playing on starfall and using 'Paint'.
P.S I was joking about the C++, I'll tackle that in a few months time!

Maybe I have inherited some artistic genes!

I drew this picture of daddy. I tried lots of times to draw a circle but couldn't do it perfectly so I asked mummy to help draw the head. I then drew the eyes, nose, mouth, arms and legs on my own.

I made some playdoh faces as well. I made the playdoh into a ball and squashed it flat (mummy made the cat ears). I then added the features.

Here I am making a 'shimmy shaker'. Daddy Moomin (aka Fimbo from the Fimbles) has one. I used my maracas and added some felt that mummy had cut out. I was allowed to watch the Fimbles on DVD afterwards, so I danced and shook my shimmy shakers!

I went to the zoo today, here is my blog from the day- I wanted 'daddy' to be written multi-coloured, so I made mummy change all the letter colours.

Happy Easter Everyone!

This weekend has been busy so far. On Friday everything was closed so we went to the beach and fed the ducks. On Saturday we went shopping, we had a buffet lunch which I thought was excellent. I even allowed mummy to put my hair in bunches for the first time. I got to choose some new hair bands too- I choose purple ones, naturally! I insisted on taking my 'shimmy shakers' with me wherever we went!We then went to a friends house for dinner and I played really well. On Sunday we had friends over for an Easter egg hunt, I found a few. I really enjoyed unwrapping my eggs but didn't like the chocolate. Tomorrow I am going to the zoo.

New reading video

This was the first time I have ever seen this story, the second time I read it I am more fluent and expressive, but mummy thought she would post an unseen text.

I went on an Easter Egg Hunt today at a friend's house. It was a lot of fun and I found lots of eggs, even purple ones! I am going for a curry tonight as it is mummy's birthday, she is 8 years old according to me!

Family games

When daddy got home tonight we played a few games. Here are the games that we played...

This game is called Flippin' Penguins, it is great fun. You have to flip the penguins onto the iceberg. Once I got the hang of flipping it was easy. Another game we played was Tumblin' Monkeys. This is a bit like the game Kerplunk but with monkeys instead of marbles. You have to roll a dice and take it in turns to remove the sticks. I was very good at taking turns. The other game we played was 'Lets go fishing', it is quite hard (even for mummy and daddy), you have to catch the fish with your fishing rod. The fish move round and open their mouths for about 1 second. There is another game that I love called Cariboo. I want Mummy to get me more games now!

My new bike and some other bits

Today I went with mummy to get a new bike. I choose a pink one which amazed mummy. I helped to build it and then I tried it out. It is very different to my old bike and I need a little more practise on it. Mummy made some videos of me playing outside on my bike. I even speak a little on the video...but not much as I don't perform for anyone! Mummy has to do secret videoing of me, but I know....

I also did a little bit of writing today on the computer. Again, I told mummy what I wanted to write and she sounded out the words for me. I found all the letters myself. It says 'Äiti and daddy go in daddy's purple car'.
I still don't like being videoed but mummy showed me the camera. I read the alphabet (phonic one) whilst looking through the screen at my book. I've known all my letter sounds since I was 15 months old. One day when I was 13 months old I showed mummy an 'M' and then S,P,T and A. Mummy still isn't sure how I knew these as she had never taught me- I refuse to be taught anything. Mummy and daddy don't teach me anything except how to say 'please' and 'thank you' and how to be sociable. Here I am reading the letters through the camera's screen.

This weekend

It has been a busy few days. On Thursday I went to Baby Cinema with mummy. We watched a film called 'Because I said So'. Mummy wasn't overly impressed but I liked the dog in the film. Mummy sat with a friend, they are from India. When mummy said 'L is from India' I said 'Tigers live in India too'. I showed mummy where India was on my globe. I went to playgroup on Friday but I wasn't in a good mood so was very clingy (more than normal). I didn't do anything there except cry and whinge!
This weekend we went to the supermarket to buy me a bike, they had sold out of purple ones and I didn't want one that said 'princess' on it so I didn't get a bike. We went to the beach and looked for the ducks. I only saw one daddy duck and that was it. I played in the forest lots and on the sand, it was a lot of fun. I also went swimming this weekend, I jumped in off the side and made a big splash. I did lots of painting and drawing too, I also played with my playdoh for ages. The weather has been really good so I have played outside, we even went bike riding- I sat on the back of mummy's bike and shouted 'faster', mummy is very unfit at the moment so couldn't go faster!
I have become a bit of a Maisy Mouse addict. I have lots of Maisy books that are very easy for me to read. I also have a Maisy DVD which I can watch sometimes. My tv viewing is limited though to 3 times a week for about 30 minutes.
