A weekend away

Theo:
I had my first night in a hotel. I slept very well!

Sophie:
I went to Birmingham to take part in the NAGC Big Family Weekend. I went last year and really enjoyed myself so we decided to go again this year. I got to do 4 sessions- 2 on Saturday and 2 on Sunday. My first session was Creative Writing which was fun. I wrote 2 short stories and did some comprehension questions. I then went to 'Explore the Galaxy' which was excellent. I made a galaxy and some planets, plus I got to go in a planetarium; I spotted various animals in the night sky.
We then went to out hotel where we had take away pizza and chips! I slept very well that night.

On Sunday my first course was 'Mega Maths' which was a lot of fun. I got to play lots of games to do with maths. It wasn't hard maths though so I held my own against the 6 and 7yr olds. After lunch I went to 'Creative Creatures' which was a music, dance and art class. I really enjoyed this class as I made a fish and a snake! It was then time to drive home.

I'm looking forward to next year already.

Reading together

Sophie:
One of the first things I want to teach Theo is reading. I feel it is very important he learns to read as Daddy, Äiti and I all can. Äiti says he might not want to learn yet, but why wouldn't he? Äiti would like him to love books but I think he needs to learn to read. Here I am sharing a book with Theo.
Click the little arrow in the bottom left hand corner, not the one in the top left.

That’s not my dinosaur
That’s not my dinosaur, its tail is too fluffy....its tail is too
fuzzy!
That’s not my dinosaur, its teeth are too bumpy
That’s not my dinosaur, its flippers are too slippery
Feel! Do you want a feel? Want a feel Theo?
Bless you!
That’s not my dinosaur, its horns are too rough
That’s my dinosaur, its spines are so soft. They are Theo. Do you want to feel Theo?
Put your hand on that one.
He just stuck his tongue out
They’re very soft aren’t they? Yeah ,they are Theo!

Theo:
Waaa wahhh, gurgle gurgle!

My book about our dinosaur hunt!

Sophie:
Today we went on a dinosaur hunt. Äiti, Theo and I went to the river in the hope of spotting the dinosaurs...and we did! I spotted some tracks first that a herd of Utahraptors had made. We went down to the river where I paddled in the shallow water. I saw Elasmosaurus swim past me which was rather exciting. We then wandered further along the river bank. In the far distance we saw a clump of trees with a head like figure looming over the top of the trees- it was Brachiosaurus. We looked for trees that had been eaten by the herbivores. I picked some grass in case Stegosaurus came past. In the distance we heard the roar of T-Rex (or Van-osaurus as Äiti said). We kept low in case we were spotted. Äiti thought she saw sheep but they were in fact a herd of Edmontosaurus. We didn't get too close. We walked down a path way that was filled with puddles- puddles of dinosaur wee! Of course, I had to jump in the puddles to check it was dinosaur wee. Diplodocus and his family had walked down the path earlier as the puddles were huge. In the sky we saw Pterodactyls flying over head, they were huge and noisy. I then led the way out of the woodland and back into the village.

Here is my book:

Bonding, Interacting ... and ears!

Theo:
I am now a little more awake in the day so this week I have spending time with Sophie who is on half term. Sophie is out to make me like books so set this up for me today:

Here are some photos of us playing together:

On a great note- today I finally passed my hearing test. This was my 3rd attempt. The first time my left ear passed but my right ear failed to register anything. The test was repeated last week and again my right ear failed. Today, after being referred to the Audiologist, I finally passed.

Chicken Pox

Theo:
I'm a scabby wee wain! I went to the village Toddler group when I was 10 days old. About 10 days later my neighbour comes over all spotty- he has the Chicken Pox...as do about 6 other kids from the Toddler group. Äiti thinks my spots could be insect bites but when the spots started to scab over she realised it was the Pox. My Health Visitor confirmed it the other day. Seeing as I was only 3 weeks old it was hard to see if I was out of sorts but I did feed a lot. A lot! I was comfort feeding which Äiti now puts down to me feeling ill. In one week I put on 3 times the average amount of weight- 1lb 10oz!!! I weighed in at 10lbs10oz.
This week though, I only put on 1oz which is a bit better!

Sophie:
I am now on half term. I have been so tired for the last few weeks, but now I am feeling better and getting back to all my normal things. Granny Val made me a new cat suit to wear. I picked a Bengal Cat fleece as I wanted to be a Bengal Cat. Val then made me my suit. Here I am trying to pose with Tiger, but he decided to run away as Daddy was taking the photo!

Me at 3 weeks!

Theo:
I am on my way to being the fattest baby ever. Despite my initial feeding problems, I am now putting on weight super fast. I am sleeping well at night, waking only for one feed. During the day I sleep rather a lot. I am quite strong which is strange seeing as I spend most of my time asleep. When I am awake I like to be cuddled, fed, cuddled, fed... I smile quite a bit now and like having my nose 'beeped'!
Here I am at 3 weeks old...

Dinosaur day!

Sophie:
Granny and Papa have been staying with us for a few days. We took them to the Natural History Museum. I loved it and want to go back again soon. I got to see some of my favourite dinosaurs like Triceratops, Icthyosaurus, Brachiosaurus and Utahraptor. There were also lots of other skeletons to look at as well as animals, fossils, bugs and fish. I bought some new model dinosaurs with my pocket money.

The missing cats

Tiger and Marmalade went missing last week. Here is the story from Äiti.

On Saturday we fed the cats as usual, then went about our day. We left both cats sleeping. When we returned home they weren't about but we saw this as normal. On Sunday morning we realised they hadn't been home as their food was untouched. By Sunday evening they both hadn't come home so J went round the village calling their names. No luck. We assumed they'd gotten themselves locked in a garden shed or garage and that someone would hear them.

On Monday I waddled round the village calling for them, I spoke with our Postman to look out for them. Nothing. Monday night, whilst J is out looking for them, the cat flap/door bangs and Tiger comes in. He collapses on the kitchen floor looking awful- so thin and weak. I feed him some ham, cat food and water. He manages to walk to the playmat and sleeps. I give him lots of cat strokes. We make a bed up for him, put out water and biscuits by his basket and hope that he is just hungry.

On Tuesday I phone the vet as he cannot walk at all, he looks sooo thin. I feed him ham and give him water every hour but the strength does not return. We speak to the vet who says to bring him in. She phones later that evening to say that she thinks he has been run over and is very lucky to be alive. She says she'll xray the next morning when the ham is out his system.

Wednesday, the vet phones to say Tiger has had an operation. He had a severe hernia which left all his innards mashed and hanging out. She had rearranged his organs and stitched him back up. He is put on 'cage rest' and observations. The vet says he can come home after the weekend. He has a lot of internal bruising as well as external bruising and cuts. The smae day, I put up posters all round the village of Marmalade. My friends in the village post Marmalade's photo on Facebook and spread the word!

On Thursday I put up more posters. A lady phones and tells me that her neighbour has just buried an orange cat that she'd found run over on the main road. I go and visit the lady- it wasn't Marmalade. I decide that Marmalade is probably in a shed and that seeing as most people garden on the weekend, he'll be home by sunday.

On Friday I put another poster up in the village pub...tis a popular place on a Friday night! That night I dream I am stoking a cat. I roll over and fully believe I am hullicinating. I wake J and say "am I dreaming or is there a cat on the bed". He confirms that the pile of orange purring fur is in fact Marmalade! He is hungry but his fur is in great condition. He is clean, healthy looking and very pleased to be home. He doesn't look like a starved cat. He spends the night under the quilt with me. Today he has been a bit jumpy but so friendly and happy. He has eaten a bit more than usual but is fine. Sophie is delighted to see him.

Tiger is now home with a large scar on his belly. He is very hungry, thin and shakey...but back home with us.

A busy weekend

Theo:
I slept!

Sophie:
My new Gymnastics class started on Saturday. Now that I am at school full time I can't get to my usual class. I was invited to join an interim group at my club and this weekend was the first session. My coach is Kirsty again, I really like her, she is very bendy! We had to do some harder exercises and skills in this class. Daddy, Äiti and Theo all came to watch me. After Gymnastics we decided to go to Borders for coffee and cake, but when we got to Borders we found it had shut down! We had to make do with the supermarket coffee shop instead. We then did the weekly shopping, I got a new jumper (see the picture) and Theo got some new sleepsuits- his feet are far too big for the newborn sizes! We then came home, had lunch and played a lot.

We had a lazy morning today just drawing and playing...and waiting for Äiti to wake up! Theo got up at 7.45am which everyone was pleased about. We then all went to the swimming pool. Äiti can't swim yet as her scar is still sore and Theo is a bit small so they watched Daddy and I in the freezing pool! We then came home and I spent some time working with Daddy in his office and then I helped him cook my favourite dinner- risotto!

Hektik Smiles!

Theo:
When I was in hospital with Äiti one of the Midwives thought I was smiling at her. Äiti told her it was wind. Since then I have smiled every day and a burp has not followed my grins! Äiti has tried to get a smile on camera for a while. Today she half succeeded with this photo.
Today I wore a t-shirt and hat that my Opa gave me. It has Flap the Rabbit on it. Everyone loves my t-shirt. It came from a great Dutch company called Hektik.cc Here are some photos of me in it.
Other news- I am now back to my huge birth weight of 9lbs 1oz. My head is in the 95th% where as my weight and height are on the 50th% line. I have a BIG head with massive squishy cheeks! My sleeping is quite good at the moment. I get ready for bed at 7pm, then Sophie reads me a story whilst I have my milk. Then I doze until 10.30pm when I have more milk. I sleep until 2.30am, have more milk and then go straight back to sleep until 7am when everyone has to get up for school and work.

Me!

Isn't this just a great photo of me? Of course Äiti didn't take it; Lorraine did!
