Stones, leaves and twigs for breakfast, lunch and dinner

I had great fun playing outside today. I was making different dinners for my toys out of anything I could find. The weather here is really warm at the moment so I am playing outside a lot more than normal. I have done lots of drawing with my jumbo chalks, I've painted everything with water, I've played hide and seek with my toys and mummy, pushed the toys around in their pushchair, played in my playhouse etc, it has been great.
Mummy caught me doing this today, she was making dinner and I was playing. She was a little surprised.
Here are some of my more recent phrases that I've been using...

"I can't see anything"

"I don't know where it is"

"They don't know what is inside that bag"

"Look Daddy Moomin, I ate all my dinner, 'oh well done' said Daddy Moomin... Daddy Moomin said well done to me"

Dot to dots

I did my first ever dot to dot today. Daddy showed me what to do and then I did this one by myself. I then drew the eyes, nose and mouth myself with no help. It is meant to be a tiger though mummy thinks it looks like a pig, but it's not! I wanted to do more dot to dots after I did this one.
Today I also went to feed the ducks at the beach, the ducks weren't there so I fed the sea gulls and crows instead. We then collected pine cones and bark from the trees. Mummy then took me to the pet shop to look at the rabbits, fish and tortoise. I told mummy that 'the tortoise is hiding in his shell'...which he was! I had a really long nap today, I didn't feel very well today so I needed 3 hours sleep. I then played in the garden with my jumbo chalks. I also got to paint the house and patio with water, that was lots of fun. After daddy came home I went out on my bike and played on the swings.

My weekend

It has been a really busy weekend. I got up early on Saturday morning and by 9am I had read lots of books, eaten my breakfast, played with playdoh, drawn some pictures, had a bath and got dressed. We went to IKEA to look for a night light but we couldn't find one so I played in the kids section, we ate lunch there too. We then went to the shopping center as I needed a new spring jacket. We also went to the library, where I got lots of new books to read, daddy got some cds. I couldn't find a jacket that I liked, I just kept saying "no" to all the ones mummy found. I wanted a purple jacket but mummy couldn't find one. After a late nap, I played outside for a while on my bike.
On Sunday I woke up early again and daddy let me watch the Fimbles.
I am not a fan of dancing but....

I also played on the computer, did lots of drawing, helped daddy cook lunch and played 'hide and seek' with my toys. I had a nap and then we went swimming. It was a lot of fun, I jumped in off the side, splashed a lot and swam a little bit between mummy and daddy. After dinner I played in the garden, I have some jumbo chalks that I drew with on the patio. I also chased daddy round the garden lots...he is not as fast as me at running. I then ate a big bedtime snack, read a lot more books and am about to go to bed.
As you can see it has been a busy weekend.

Bike riding

Today I got to ride my bike outside for the first time. The snow has nearly melted so it was easy to ride on. My toy (Daddy moomin) is sitting on my lap so I'm not going as fast as usual as I didn't want him to fall off! When I came home I wrote a bit of my blog. I told mummy what I wanted to write and she said the words clearly for me as my speech still sounds like a 2 year old as I don't say all the sounds yet. I could use the spacebar and the backspace keys already.

I wrote 'I went on my bike' and 'daddy is fast'.

Sophie's World

Yesterday I got a free present with my magazine subscription (National Geographic Kids). My present was a blow up globe. Mummy blew it up and gave it to me to kick around, I decided to study it instead. Straight away I found Europe and pointed out Finland, UK (as Granny Val lives there), Ireland (as I went there on an airplane) and Germany and Sweden (Daddy worked there recently). Mummy and daddy were a little amazed.

I also spotted that the white on a globe is snow, the yellow is sand, and the green and blue are trees and sea. I showed daddy where penguins live too, they live in the cold snow so they live at the bottom of the globe.

As we came out the house today I said "There might be a rainbow in the sky", mummy looked at me and asked " how do you know that?", I replied "it is sunny and raining". Mummy thanked me for her small meteorological lesson!
Here is a rainbow I drew the other day. The sun is very faint, the brown dots are rain and the sky is purple like the sunset I saw the other day. I did this by myself without any input from mummy or daddy.

A great weekend away

This weekend I went skiing with my friend Merette and her family. We had a great time skiing, having sauna and relaxing. I didn't go skiing so just watched mummy and daddy take it turns to ski down hills. I went sledging with Merette which was fun. This is the house that we rented, it was very big. The house was about 2 hours drive from our house in a small place called Hauho.
We went for a walk by (and on) the lake next to the house. I spotted lots of footprints and tracks in the snow and I heard a woodpecker in the woods. We found a duck house by the side of the lake, it was empty so I decided I would put a stick in there to help the birds make their nest- mummy said the stick was too big for a nest! It was a very tiring weekend but a lot of fun.

We are famous!

If you click on the photo then it will enlarge so that you can read it. A month ago mummy was asked if she would write an article about life as an expat in Finland, so she did and here it is...

The magazine is WOMAN and is a weekly UK magazine with a readership of 1 million per edition.
Only 4 of the photos were provided by us, the food and the swimming photos came from the WOMAN photo library.
Mummy would like to say thank you to Kerry and Jules for providing pdfs and photos of the article- we haven't seen the magazine yet.

Busy last few days

On Wednesday we went to the indoor playcenter. Daddy had taken the car so we had to go by bus, it took 2 hours to get there and 2 hours to get home. I was really well behaved on the bus and as a special treat, mummy let me read all the car number plates in the car park! The indoor playcenter was great fun too!

On Thursday mummy and I went to the cinema. There were 150 other babies/small children in there. Mummy watched a movie called 'Songs and Lyrics' and I read books, ran around the cinema, ate pop corn and smiled at the other babies. We won a prize in the free raffle and I won a months supply of baby food...which I haven't eaten in ages!

This morning we went to gymnastics. I walked along the beam all by myself and leaped of the end. I bounced really high on the trampoline too. We are going skiing this weekend with our friends, I may get to try down hill skiing!

My reading

A few months ago I began teaching myself to read. Mummy has no idea how I have learnt. I like mummy to point to the words as she reads and I just seem to learn them. I have always loved books and letters and now words seem to be my new thing. I love reading and can sit on my own and read for hours. Here is the latest video of me reading, it was taken just before I turned 2.

I love playing 'I spy' in the car. I also try and look for signs to read all the time, this is quite hard as I cant read Finnish...yet!

Daddy's birthday- 12 March

Today it was daddy's birthday, I was so excited I woke him at 6am to remind him. He had seemed to have forgotten his important day. Mummy and I did some painting after daddy had gone to work on his red bike, then I had a long bath and then we went outside to dig in the snow. I played with Kiia, we went on the big swing together. I made some snow castles as we cant find the sand at the moment. We then came in and I played on the computer, then I had lunch then a sleep. After my sleep I wanted to read lots of books so we did, then daddy came home. We all got changed and went to an Indian restaurant. I ate chicken tikka, rice, nan, popadoms and raita sauce. It was very yummy. I even talked to the man in the restaurant! Here is a photo of me at the restaurant, it was taken on mummy's phone so the quality is poor.

My weekend- 10/11 March

This weekend was quite quiet. We had to go the supermarket and to the library. I chose 6 new books to read and daddy got some cds out. I slept for 3 hours on Saturday afternoon which is a recent record. We then went for a walk to look for bears and tigers. I love looking for footprints in the snow and can now identify cats, dogs, rabbits, people, birds and tigers! I also use my model animals to make footprints in the playdoh. On Sunday we all went swimming, the lovely warm pool was closed so we didn't stay long as the baby pool was freezing and mummy refused to get in it. I played outside after dinner digging in the snow and sending various things down the slide. I then read a bit to mummy and she read me some stories and then I went to bed with a small library in my cot.

My 2 year developental check up

I have recently had my 2 year check up with the doctor. I wasn't very happy the whole time I was there and hardly spoke at all. I did say 'I want to go and get in my buggy and go home NOW'. I weighed 22lbs and was 86cm tall, I am tall and skinny. The doctor was quite impressed with my jigsaw abilities and a little disbelieving at my reading skills. I refused to perform so the doctor never got to see how well I read. She did say my speech though was at the same level as a 3 year olds. Mummy isn't quite sure about this though.

My Birthday

I was 2 last week. Mummy and daddy got me some playdoh and a new jumper. I also got lots of books, some games and some jigsaws. Granny Val came to stay and we had lots of fun.

I went to an indoor playcenter with some of my friends and then mummy had a small party for me with my friends from playgroup. I wanted to go to IKEA for my birthday lunch, so Val and Mummy took me for hotdogs, chips and dip dip sauce.

Here are some photos of my birthday. As you can see our house was a little cramped.
