Some of my holiday diary

I wanted to write a holiday diary again this year so I took a huge pad of paper and a folder with me to France. Over 10 days I covered just over 100 A4 pages with writing, drawings, charts, graphs and lists.

Here are just a few bits of my diary.

This was a letter I wrote to a pesky fly that wanted to eat my dinner

"To Fly. Oi stop it and if you don't Val will spray you. Go away! From Sophie"

A little story about Yicky the Sticky.

A tortoise!

Picture the scene....

A half clad child drawing European flags, then declaring a need for sticks to be used as flag poles. The half clad child wanders round the garden hacking with scissors at various bushes and plants until she has a required number of sticks. Half clad child makes small flags so that poor harassed mother can wave them when the dogs have their running race. Three toilet rolls (brand new) sit on the table disguised as 'chicks' who will help support the dogs. Sadly one chick from the brand new packet got eaten by an eagle as it flew down the stairs. Only one dog (Woofy) can be seen, the others are imaginary and have come from various countries in Europe...poor harassed mother has to remember which country each imaginary dog comes from. Half clad child runs round garden dragging Woofy (the space hopper) whilst harassed mother stands at the window waving appropriate flags and cheering on dogs she cannot see!

Tomorrow is the 2nd dog show, the names and countries have been listed. The harassed mother will try her best to learn names and countries!

My holiday to France!

Last week I was in France with Äiti and Val. Daddy had to work so we asked Val to come with us just in case 'Thingy' decided to come early!

We got the over night ferry to Le Harve, then Äiti drove us 330miles to the house. I had a brilliant holiday. I played on the beach a lot, played in the garden, went on lots of bike rides, ate out a few times, helped with chipping the wall, looked for stick insects, ate baguettes and croissants, spoke a bit of French and played lots.

I got a new bike from Decathlon and it is excellent. I rode everyday with Äiti and Val.


On Sunday we started our 400mile car trip home. Our boat crossing was very rough and Val and Äiti were very ill. Val was even sick whilst Äiti just lay on the floor looking sick. I amused myself with my books, Nintendo, drawing, writing, helped myself to food and drinks and was generally brilliant! Val and Äiti were very proud of me.

As Äiti put me in my car seat, I said,
"Why don't you just climb over me to get to your seat rather than walking round the car?"
Äiti said it was easier to walk around rather than climb over, so I said...
"Well you're not exactly thin are you...and you're not 18 any more"


I recently got asked which websites I liked to play on...
"I like cbeebies, Skype, Messenger and Hotmail"
"oh" was the reply, "what do you do on those?"
"I like to send emails to my friends and write messages to daddy on skype and messenger....skype has a beer button".


I wrote some sums for Äiti,
"Answer these please...come on hurry up, it is an easy sum, come on...arghhh, just write 257"
My sum was: 100+100= ____ + 30= _____ + 20= _____+ 10 - 3 = _______
I drew boxes though, not lines!


To Daddy at dinner,
"I'm going to be the mummy raccoon, you are going to be the baby raccoon... do you think you can manage that?"

My very long fun run!

Last night, I ran in a fun run! Daddy was going to run but he'd hurt his back sneezing too hard so I said I'd help him run with me. Äiti thought the race was only 1 mile in length, but when we went to register the sign said 3 miles! I still wanted to do it though, despite Äiti and Daddy saying it was too far.

I lined up with 100 other children who were all much bigger than me. A whistle blew and off we set. Äiti, Val and Michael cheered me on near the start.


I trotted the whole way with Daddy and I talked non-stop. I enjoyed spotting the yellow arrows and being an eagle-eyed elephant!

47minutes later I crossed the finish line and got my medal! I was so pleased with myself.

I picked a lovely new nappy (diaper) for 'Thingy' last week, it arrived today and I think I made a great decision- it is bright red! Me, Äiti and Daddy are still having trouble finding bright coloured clothing so a red nappy was a good idea!

A day in the life of me!

At 7am the alarm rang and there was no sign of Sophie. John went in and tried to wake her but she was like a teenager after a very late night. She rolled over, moaned and groaned but eventually got out of bed. She got herself dressed and came down for breakfast. She choose Coco-Pops- the half bowl took half an hour to eat as she day-dreamed, talked to her toy cats and stared into space. After a cup of milk I did her teeth, wiped her face, brushed her hair and then she went to play for a bit.

She then realised that she hadn’t had her early morning bonding session with ‘Thingy’ so whipped up my t-shirt and tickled my tummy until ‘Thingy’ reacted!

At 8.15am we got in the car and drove to school. Sophie wrote another chapter of her book on the way. She refused to get out the car until she’d written the last sentence. We parked a short walk away from the school so she could scoot in...but we’d forgotten the scooter so we walked.
I unpacked her backpack and Sophie went into the playground to play horses with her friends. I went grocery shopping...oh joy!

I picked Sophie up at 1.30pm. We drove into a nearby town to buy a new paddling pool (her usual Tuesday swimming lesson was cancelled). On the way Sophie talked about school and wrote another chapter of her book. At school they’d played outside a lot, played with the bubbles- they have a bubble machine that the teachers turn on and the kids chase the bubbles for hours! She’d also had a French lesson with a new teacher, assembly, made a card for the Headteacher and had lunch. She wasn’t impressed with lunch (ham salad plus bits) and was rather annoyed by the pudding. “It was jam tarts and I don’t like jam tarts as I had one in Starbucks in February and it was quite yucky so I knew this would be yucky too”.

We parked at a shop, Sophie then asked me to read her book so far. I did, but I got some of the intonation wrong, so she had a screaming fit at me. I warned her that any more behaviour like that would mean we went elsewhere. So she yelled and kicked “I don’t love you anymore” so I turned the engine back on and we drove away...cue sobbing! We parked at the retail park and went to 4 different shops- every shop had sold out of paddling pools so we came home empty handed.

On the drive home Sophie announced she knew some sign language- this is very new to me so she proceeded to show me 10 different signs. I have no idea if she’d made them up or not!

Back at home we went in the garden. It is scorching here right now- 85F in the garden so we played in the shade. Sophie took her paint pens out and painted pictures, then she played with Woofy the orange space-hopper dog! I then filled a small bucket up for her with water and she splashed in that for half an hour. Eventually we got too hot so came back inside where she made a ‘salad’ out of paper. We then played ‘Mums and Babies’ where I was the baby with a sore arm that needed taking to the doctors.

By now it was 5pm, this is where her ‘foul hour’ begins so I switched on her laptop. We looked on ebay for a new nappy (diaper) for 'Thingy'- Sophie picked a red Itti Bitti which looked lovely! She then wanted to do Beestar so we did one exercise before she announced she wanted Skype installed. I did this and we spent some time trying it out between sofas! She hooked up with daddy and had a chat with him.

It was then dinner, John fired up the BBQ and I made a Greek salad with Sophie’s help. It wasn’t very Greek in the end as Sophie ate most of the olives en route from the chopping board to the salad bowl. She ate very slowly as usual and proceeded to drop half her food on the floor. After dinner she swept up her mess, then helped tidy the garden.

At 7pm I took her upstairs whilst John did the dishes. She is now in bed sharing an Animal Ark book with daddy. I imagine she’ll be asleep by 8pm tonight.

Camping in the Forest

We went camping this weekend. On Friday we drove down to the New Forest to a campsite we'd seen last year. We had dinner in Prezzos on the way down, it was really yummy and I ate loads. We then went to our campsite which was enormous. It was a basic campsite with toilets and showers and not a lot else. We pitched our tent in between the trees of the forest which was excellent. I found a few sticks and played with them for ages whilst Äiti and Daddy put up the tent, I also rode my bike a bit.

On Saturday we woke up at 9am and as we walked to the toilet block we saw a wild pony walking between the tents! As we ate breakfast several horses walked past us and then one tried to eat my breakfast, then it tried to eat Daddy's food. Daddy had to wrestle with the horse for a long time...Äiti took photos, I was a bit scared! Eventually a Ranger came and told us to spray the horse with water, we did, so the horse then decided to go in our tent!

I then rode my bike after the horses had gone and then we decided to go to the beach. We sat on a stony beach and ate ice-creams, I then threw stones into the sea which was fun. We had a BBQ for dinner...daddy was on horse watch! I then went exploring with daddy in the forest, we found dens, ditches and lots more sticks!

On Sunday we woke up late again and then had breakfast. Again Daddy was armed with a water bottle just in case, but no horses visited us as they were hanging round the toilet block and stealing other breakfasts! I then started writing a book whilst Äiti and Daddy dismantled the tent. On our way out we saw lots of cows wandering through the campsite which was funny.

I had a lovely weekend. I played with lots of sticks and stones, biked around the campsite, saw horses and cows, went to the beach and had lots of fun.

Notes to Boys!

I wrote this in the car today! I like Harry a lot!

50 meters of swimming!

Look what I got today!!! I swam 50 meters on my back- actually it was 60 meters but they dont have a 60m badge! I just kept on swimming and swimming and swimming! My backstroke was apparently really good. My arms were straight and looking good and strong! I'm rather pleased with myself.

My prayer

We say a prayer before lunch at school. I thought Aiti should know it so I wrote it down quickly for her...we were playing schools today.

This is the prayer that we say:


"Thank you God for the food that we eat for prices sake, Amen"

T-Shirt Painting

I decorated some t-shirts this week. This is how they turned out:

I made the little onesie (vest) for 'Thingy'! I had a lot of fun designing the t-shirts. I started off by drawing the outlines with pencil and then painting over the top. I asked Aiti to make the butterfly more symmetrical, she also helped squeeze some of the paint out as it was quite hard. I wore my rainbow t-shirt today.

My eye test!

Today I had my eyes tested. Aiti was a little worried about my late night reading of small texts and a slightly 'squiffy' eye so thought I should maybe get my eyes tested.

The news of the eye test was broken to me this afternoon after school, I can't say I was overly happy but I wasn't going to get a choice!

I started off having my eyes looked at by the assistant in a special machine. I then had to read some coloured numbers to check that I wasn't colour blind. Aiti was then asked quite a few questions and then I had to do a test with some black glasses on.

It was then time to see the Optician. I did a few kid tests until the Optician realised I could read so she then put me through the full adult test! I read all the letters, answered all the questions, did as I was told and then read the card with various size text paragraphs on.

I was told that I am slightly long sighted. I need to be tested again in 6months to check on this.

The dog show!

Today we hosted a dog show! Yes, our postage stamp sized garden housed 10 dogs of different breeds, there were competitions and rosettes to be won!

Today I spent the whole afternoon designing and making a dog show for my 'pet' dog Woofy and all Woofy's invisible friends!

Woofy is an Orange Golden Terrier! Woofy has been with us for a few weeks now. He has been trained, dragged round the garden, made to sit, heel, come and roll over. Sometimes he is naughty so he gets tied up next to the washing line where he often pees! Every so often Woofy is allowed in the house but he isn't permitted to jump up! Woofy was in general quite a good dog until he was badly behaved one day so I sold him to Aiti, but I still train him. He is groomed regularly and washed daily!

Today was the dog show. Woofy was dressed up in his finery- PostIt stamps, a few bracelets and a hair band. He'd been washed a few days ago. He looked great. He was parked in the garden to wait for his friends. Meanwhile I was designing rosettes and medals. I then drew a chalk map on the wall, wrote Dog Show on the patio and was then ready!

The dogs arrived one by one and were ticked off the list. They then participated in various competitions where they got to win their prizes:

Several hours later, Woofy fell asleep by the washing line having won the 'most fabulous dog' prize. His friends had gone home and all was quiet again in the garden!

My weekend

We spent most of this weekend in Windsor as it was the Windsor Triathlon. We drove over on Saturday so that daddy could register, rack his bike and pick up his goody bag. We then went for lunch and a quick shop for baby stuff...we came away with nothing as we can't find anything that isn't pale pink or blue with tractors on! Finding bright stuff for this baby is hard. Next to the registration park was a 'bungee trampoline'- I had a go and really enjoyed it. I got to jump very very high but I was a bit too light to make the trampoline work really well. There is a video of me on the trampoline but it isn't uploading well.

We had pasta for dinner as apparently the pasta could make daddy a bit faster in his race. I then rode my bike outside for a bit and then I had to go to bed early. I was so excited to find out that we had to get up at 4am that I couldn't sleep. By 9.30pm (3 hours after getting into bed) I was asleep.


At 4am we got up and drove back to Windsor. Daddy had to be in the River Thames at 6.40am, it looked cold and dirty and full of pesky swans. We cheered him on in the bike section, I then settled down with my Nintendo as we had a while to wait until we saw him again...we missed him on the bike...and most of the run! Eventually we met up with Sarah and Pip and cheered daddy on his last lap of the run. We then all went for a big breakfast at our friends house.

A little story by me!

I wrote this today whilst Aiti tidied the kitchen (for once). The numbers are the chapters. I did all the formatting myself. I couldn't find the spell checker though.

I went to shool today. I played in the bubbles. I went to giymnastics and flew of the big ble block. it was fun. I do have a wooden train set. i play wifh it some times.

I wrote it in olive green as I like olives. I answered a question (about train sets) that one of my friends asked me. I love checking my email!

I have also discovered MSN and Messenger and have been happily typing conversations with Äiti across the kitchen table. I do like sending 'nudges' and emoticons!

Aiti- er yes, best start eating right away then!

Every day we drive past a house being built. Today the water people were there putting the house onto the mains. Aiti explained to me about how the house needed the pipes for the water to go in and out.
My comment "if the house filled up with 110% of water, then slowly it would become an aquarium"

At dinner-
"Daddy, I love you"
"likewise" said daddy
"well I love you 100% daddy"
"well I love you 110%"
"well I love you 2,000,478%... I win, my number was bigger than yours"

I got home from school to find Aiti had tidied my bedroom
Me- I don't love you any more, Äiti I'm not loving you again until the end of September
Aiti- I see you've noticed your room is clean
Me- I didn't want a clean room, I liked having a messy room, never clean it again

At my swimming lesson
Teacher- ok, Sophie, let's see some froggy legs
Me- - I can't do it
T- Why not?
Me- Because I'm not a frog!

"See Äiti, I do have a slave, an expensive one called daddy"

"I'm going to be very busy sorting out my colours so I need one of my slaves to get me some paper...daddy is busy, so Äiti, you need to go" I was surprised when Aiti didn't get me the paper!

"Aiti and I have an umbilical cord joined to us where our love goes"

"I was just determined to buy something in that shop"...this was afer I bought my Spork!

Guess what I am saying!

I went to a fairly new park today with Val and Äiti where there was a water fountain pool. It was very cold but a lot of fun. I got to have a large ice-cream afterwards but I was so cold I couldn't eat it!

Some more biking

Tonight we all went to the Common/Woodland for a bike ride. The weather was so hot and sunny so we took a picnic as well. This time I only rode 5 laps or 5 miles as it was getting late and I have school tomorrow. I love riding through the woodland, I keep looking out for animals but so far I have only seen imaginary ones!

This week the weather has been fantastic. I have spent all afternoon running round the garden completely naked...just like old times! I've been playing with my 'dog' called Woofy. Woofy is really a bright orange space hopper but I'm training him to do tricks like sit, stay, come and roll over! I have a lead (my skipping rope) that I use, sometimes Woofy has a wee against the washing (laundry) line! It is very funny! Today I got the hose out and groomed Woofy, then Äiti sprayed me with water which I loved.
