One Step, Two Steps and a .... topple!

Theo:
Waddle waddle, plop!
Step step, fall!
Wobble wobble, wibble!

Yep, at the grand old age of 5 months and 3 weeks, I took 2 steps without any help. Opa counted as I aimed myself at Sophie! All I need is some more balance and I'll be heading off down the street to buy myself some more food!

How much pasta can I cram in my mouth?

Theo:
I LOVE food!
I started eating last weekend (10 days ago). In that time I have tried the following...
Porridge (2 different types)
Spaghetti Bolognese
Chilli and Rice
Carrot, Potato, Butternut Squash, Broccoli, Peas
Chicken, Sausage, Burger
Pasta, Rice, a Chip
Toast, Hot Cross Bun
Apple, Pear, Banana, Strawberries, Blueberries
Weetabix
Rice Cakes, Half a Chocolate Button

I don't really care if the food is mashed or just given to me whole...I'll try it all!

Opa comes to visit

Sophie:
Opa came to visit us this week. I got a fantastic new book from him called 'Jip and Janneke'. I just can't stop reading this book. It is a Dutch book that has recently been translated into English. We went for a long walk with Opa after school which was fun.

Dinosaurs Unleashed

Sophie:
For my birthday treat we went to London to see Dinosaurs Unleashed. The Dinosaurs were living opposite Selfredges on Oxford Street. There were 24 life size dinosaurs to see and touch. I saw all my favourites including Dippy, Steggie, Iggie, Anky and Tri. I even saw Liopleurodon swimming in the aquarium with Clyppy and Opthy. I also got to design my own dinosaur using a computer. I also became a paleantologist and dug for fossils. It was a great day out.

Theo:
I slept through the whole of the exhibition! I did have a nice photo taken with Sophie though once I'd woken up. Do you like our matching t-shirts?

Off for a walk

Theo:
I do like walking whilst someone holds my fingers. I like to stomp round the house, across gyms, over playgrounds, round classrooms; in fact, anywhere I can walk, I will try.
I'm now pushing various things around now whilst walking. Today at playgroup, Mummy finally got me on video pushing a toy box. She filmed it on her mobile (cell phone) so the quality is not good- I also refused to perform properly!

Feed me, feed me NOW!

Theo:
I am a hungry boy so today, at just over 5½ months I got my first proper meal. I had some quite tasty porridge for breakfast which I ate a few spoons of. Due to my reflux, I sicked most of it back up- I'm glad it was runny porridge otherwise I'd have cried.

I also had a little bit of dinner. Daddy was cooking spaghetti bolognese so I had some of the sauce. I coped quite well with the lumps in it. I also had a few spoons of apple sauce which was rather tasty and I sucked that off the spoon. I needed a bath after all that eating.

World Book Day

Sophie:
Today at school we had to dress up as a book character- I chose Mog, again!

Theo:
Just because I am 5 months old, doesn't mean that I can be dressed up in daft clothes and made to look silly...I know I looked silly today, but that didn't stop Mummy. Meow!

My 5th Birthday

Sophie:
After a birthday breakfast of fried eggs (yes, I wanted fried eggs), Emily came round and I opened my presents with her before we headed off to school together. Mummy and Daddy got me a new scooter as I am currently riding Mummy's very old one. They also gave me some new books and a pair of pyjamas. Theo got me some Lego. Val and Michael got me a dinosaur t-shirt and a whole bucket full of art and craft things. Granny and Papa got me some purple clothes and some money...which I promptly spent on tickets to Dinosaurs Unleashed. I got a dinosaur light and a dinosaur excavation set from Auntie Cathryn and my cousins. Thank you every one! In the evening Val and Michael came over and we all went out for a Chinese. I had crispy aromatic duck which was very good. Theo tried prawn crackers.

Food, yummy food!

Theo:
So far I have helped myself to the following foods-

Tzatziki- very very good so I helped myself to some more
Tuc Biscuits- rather tasty but I kept dropping them
KitKat- no one realised until they spotted chocolate round my mouth
Sophie's biscuit- she shouldn't have left it on the floor
Guacamole- mmmmm, delicious
Masala curry sauce- very delicious, not too spicy...just right!
A chip- quite easy to hold and stuff in my mouth, but a bit hard to swallow.
Prawn Crackers- very easy to hold and eat.

This weekend, I think the plan, now that I am over 5.5months is to try me on porridge. Let the weaning begin!

Happy 5th Birthday, Sophie!

Mummy:
Every year I make a montage of Sophie's milestones and some of the things she has done in the past 12 months. I do admit they are very very cheesy...but Sophie likes watching them!

Here is the latest montage of year 4.

Just for old times sake, here are her montages from 0-2yrs and 2-4yrs

It's my party!

Sophie:
Today I had my Dino-Gym birthday party. In the end, 16 of my friends joined me for Gymnastics; we had so much fun. Thank you to everyone that came and thank you for my fantastic presents. I got toy dinosaurs, dinosaur making kits, dinosaur t-shirts, dinosaur books, animal making kits and dinosaur stickers! Thank you!

We started off the party with a warm up and lots of games. We did some stretching and then we went into the little gym and did beam and bars work. We got to swing on ropes, climb vaults, walk on the beams, swing on the bars, roll down slopes and jump off high boxes.

We then went back to the main gym where we did some trampolining. Then we did some team races and warmed down. It was then time to eat. I had a great dinosaur cake that Mummy had found. I had such a great time at my party. Thank you for coming.

Theo:
I got held by lots of people. I waddled across the huge floor mat with Tasha. I helped myself to some biscuits...yum yum yum!

Half Term

Sophie:
Half term is now over and tomorrow I go back to school. It has been quite a busy week.

It started last weekend with my usual gymnastics class. Then on Sunday we went to the bookshop and met Amelia and Oliver for coffee and lots of reading!

Tiger hasn't been well, so we had to take him to see the Vet on Monday. In the afternoon I had a swimming lesson that Daddy took me too. I had a good lesson and tried very hard. On Tuesday we went to the Rainforest which was a lot of fun. I got to show Theo the fish and all the plants.

We then went for lunch at McDonalds and then we had a trip to Tescos which was very boring. I did get a new DinoMite magazine though. On Wednesday we had a pyjama morning, then we went to the library where I got 19 new books. Theo and I wore our matching t-shirts and shared a few books.

I had another swimming lesson in the afternoon which went very well. I went scooting after and made a silly video! On Thursday we went to an indoor play-center with my friend Maya, we then went for lunch in a nice lakeside cafe. In the cafe they had some ammonite shells and a mammoth skull. I got quite excited by both of these! On Friday I went to see my friend Kayne...we played dinosaurs together and did some drawings. I went scooting again in the afternoon. This weekend I went to gymnastics, food shopping, to the park, to a party and then out for an early dinner with my friend G.

I also did my half term homework which was to write several book reviews of fantasy books. Mummy hopes that my dinosaur books can be classed as fantasy!

Come back, Marmalade!

Sophie:
I miss Marmalade lots. I made a leaflet the other day that I wanted to hand out to everyone that lives in our village. Mummy limited me to 4 houses.
Here is my leaflet...

I also made an Excel spreadsheet of my animals

I can talk and talk and talk

Sophie:
Lots of people think I am very quiet...

So there is an Allosaurus and a T-rex there so um ,and they’re coming from that way, so if you look behind you all the Sauropods, guess what? there is a T-rex, a Velociraptor and an Allosaurus chasing us. So um, we better go that way and um and now we have to go because the carnivores are getting closer, so come on, let’s go!
Guess what, i am actually the first Saurodpod that is leading the way to the park, so the other Sauropods, I mean the adult Sauropods following the other Sauropods. And, you don’t know the way. But you told it to me so now I know the way and I’m just telling it to you. Ok, so I think we can go. Come on!
I do actually not know what way we’re going now. “What way are we going, Sauropods?” Oh yes, all the Sauropods are going this way so we are going to have to go this way. Hmm, hmph, I’m stuck. “Help, Suaropods help me!”
Um, the Sauropod scooting triathlon and guess what I just had to lead all the Sauropods and adult Sauropods away to where we having the triathlon...and do you know who won, it was actually Diplo. Diplo is actually one of my diplodocus friends and um I just visit him all the time. He lives right down there and I sometimes visit him and have sleepovers. “Hey Diplo, come here”. Diplo is bigger than me and he can eat the top of the tree. “Why don’t we go back home, Sauropods?”, “we want to go in the park” replied the other Sauropods, “so.. we can! “
Now we are nearly at the park, the park is just round that corner and through an alley way and through the gate. So we just have ...watch out there is a van now!
Hey baby Sauropods and adult Sauropods that are doing the race..and mummy Sauropods and adult Sauropods, we’re going to the park. And um and we’re going to play there, so I think we can actually go now. Let’s go!
Yum yum...eating my ferns!

Big Boy Seats

Theo:
The other day I escaped out my Bumbo, then the next day I escaped out my bath chair so Mummy had to do something about this. She bought me a new grown up bath chair so now I can sit in the bath with Sophie.
Here I am in my new bath seat- please do not laugh at my rolls- they keep me warm!

Yesterday, at the supermarket I got to try out the proper seat in the trolley. I sat with Sophie, it was quite good fun being next to her.

Here I am just sitting around!

Sophie-isms!

I was asked this question in an email. For those that know me well, they'll know that I do not like answering questions. I normally answer with one or two words, so this is an unusual response from me.

Ä: Sophie, Asia has asked a question, do you want to answer it?
Sophie: Catty's äiti? OK
Ä: You have to give more than a one word answer though
Sophie: hmmm
Ä: Tell me something that happened a long, long time ago
Sophie: (deep breath, long pause) The Dinosaurs...that's my favourite answer. And also mammoths, sabre tooth tigers and giant hyenas and giant beavers. Steggie was a herbivore and I like him because of the spikes on his tail and the plates on his back.
One day a meteorite crashed into earth and made the dinosaurs extinct. Extinct means there are no more of them in case Catty doesn't know what extinct means. There were reindeer in the ice-age and wooly mammoths. The wooly mammoths died but the reindeer survived. They were in the ice-age and now some live in the arctic areas. So the reindeers didn't become extinct.
Ä: (just because she had to) So, tell me about giant beavers
Sophie: They looked like real beavers today but they lived in the ice-age. (dramatic pause)...and....they were the size of BEARS!

Text messages with Daddy...
Sophie: Hi Daddy. Did you even have breakfast today? Love Sophie
Daddy: Hello Sophie. I'm having some porridge soon. Would you like some? Love Daddy
Sophie: Oi you. I do not like porridge. Love Sophie xxxxxxx

To Theo
"Theo, what is 3-4? Come on Theo, don't you know"
Theo stares lovingly at me
I then answer for him in a high pitched voice
"I think the answer is 5"
"No Theo it isn't 5, why did you say that?"
Answering for Theo again
"I couldn't be bothered to work the answer out"

To Äiti
"Äiti, I really really like your jumper...actually it is a cardigan...or is it a fleece. Oh I don't know. I also really really like your socks...actually I haven't seen your socks today but I think they are probably very nice"

In assembly
My class were standing in front of the school and presenting our models. My teacher asks
"Now Sophie, would you like to tell everyone another person that helps us"
"No!" I said.

At dinner:
"Can you listen to me, I actually have a sensible idea"

Daddy: Do you want to go to Waterstones and get a new book?
Me: mumble mumble
Daddy: Was that a yes or a no?
Me: Well, if it sounded like a yes, then it has to be a yes

Ä: so did you do anything new at school today
Me: Miss M introduced a new di-graph
Ä: oh really..and that would be.....
Me: ch to go with the sh di-graph, it's just makes a phoneme
Ä: uh huh!

A day in the life of me

Theo:

I had to be woken this morning at 7.45am. It had been a hard night having had to wake at 4.30am for a feed. We had to take Sophie to school for 8.20am as she was off on a school trip. I was hurried through my milk, given a quick nappy change, dressed and then I was ready. I had a little vomit and then we were on our way.

Once we'd waved Sophie off (and I'd been sick all down Äiti's shoulder), I had a quick smile and laugh with K (age 3yrs) and then we then came home. I had wanted to smile at M (3 months) but she was sleeping, we never seem to be able to co-ordinate our sleeping times.

At home, we checked Äiti's Facebook and Forum. It was then time to play. I rode on my rocker for a bit which was fun until I decided to ride it without using any hands! I then had a bit of tummy time which I hate. I decided to do nothing except lie face down chewing the blanket and puke a little more. Eventually Äiti flipped me over and we played 'peek a boo'. We then read some books together. I get very excited when I see books so waggled my arms lots. We read about 7 books until I decided I was hungry and needed my mid-morning milk.

After my milk (and a bit more puking) I sat on the floor and played my piano. I also practised my singing. I have this down to a fine art now- I can screech like the best of them! I then wanted to walk round the house so we did a tour of downstairs. It wasn't overly interesting so Äiti let me look out the window. Someone put something called glass in the window so I kept banging my head. Daddy came home whilst I was looking out the window. I gave him a big smile as he approached the door. I then decided to try my cruising. I can take two steps along the sofa now. I did this for a while and then tried my standing. Here I am standing. Yes, my friends, I am wearing tights- never ever speak of this again! Naturally I was sick...hence why I'm wearing tights- Äiti gets fed up of my nice clothes getting covered in sick.

I then tried to have a poo but all I could muster was a few smelly farts. I then yawned so Äiti saw this as her cue to put me to sleep. She wrapped me up like a big yellow fajita and put me in my bouncy chair...then left me! She is trying to get me to fall asleep without being rocked. I thought I'd lull her into a false sense of security and fell asleep within 2 seconds!

2 hours later I woke up! Apparently Äiti had done things around the house, but I couldn't see any difference. Her Zoo on Facebook looked a bit better though! It was now 1pm and I was hungry again- I like to eat every 3 hours. I had my milk which I followed with a super loud burp and some more sick. Then Äiti decided she wanted to eat her lunch with 2 hands so she switched on the TV for me and parked me in my bouncy chair. After watching Äiti eat 2 mouthfuls I decided that the poo I'd been brewing all morning should be released, thus ending Äiti's peaceful lunch! Obviously I could not just sit in it, so I protested loudly until my nappy was changed. Just for good measure I decided to have a wee whilst my nappy was off. Äiti eventually ate her lunch with me on her knee!

We then played some more with my toys, read a few more books and did some more tummy time. I refused to do anything on my tummy so decided to chew my fist instead. Äiti then took me upstairs as she needed to sort the washing. She put me on the bed as she did her job. When she wasn't looking, and just to scare her, I rolled on to my front so she found me face down waggling my arms and legs. Äiti was not pleased.

After some more play, I decided I wanted a nap. Again, Äiti wrapped me up like a fajita and left me. This time I knew what she was up to so remained awake until 5 minutes before she had to leave to pick Sophie up...that'll teach her to want me to sleep. Äiti left me with daddy and picked up Sophie. I was awake when they got home 20minutes later! It was a short nap.

Sophie told me about her day and how her school trip had made her scared. I smiled at her because I know she likes me smiling. I think I made her feel better. The afternoon passed with some toys, some books and some lying around. I had a good scream at 4.45pm and then fell asleep for a 20 minute powernap.

It was then time for Äiti to make tea. She put me in my Bumbo whilst she tried to do things in the kitchen. I kept escaping out the Bumbo; all I wanted was to be held. Daddy came down and did as I asked- he cuddled me and made me laugh.

It was then dinner time. I sat in my highchair looking hungrily at everyone. No one passed me any food so I shouted loudly until someone picked me up, they don't realise I'm bored with just milk. After dinner, Sophie wrote her birthday invitations whilst I watched. At 6.50pm I started to cry so I was taken upstairs, changed, fed and placed in my cot. I did try to protest but I just fell asleep.
