Caterpillars and Butterflies

I've had a lovely day today. I went back to Borders where they were continuing their 'Caterpillar' theme. Today I made a butterfly out of a toilet roll tube and some card. I was really pleased with my butterfly. The tube was big enough for me to put my hand through, I could make the proboscis of the butterfly with my fingers. In the morning I had read my Science book and decided I wanted to do a few experiments, we needed to buy a few things for the experiments so we went shopping. I bought some white flowers and some food dye. I now have 4 vases of carnation flowers sitting in coloured water. I cant wait to see what will happen. I did another experiment too about plants.

I then made another butterfly and then read my 'Hungry Caterpillar' book. The sound quality is not good so there is a transcript added.

In the light of the moon a little egg lay on a leaf. One Sunday morning the warm sun came up and- pop- out of the egg came a tiny and very hungry caterpillar. He started to look for some food. Now you Chameleon! On Monday he ate through one apple. But he was still hungry. On Tuesday he ate through two pears. But he was still hungry. On Saturday he ate through one piece of chocolate cake, one ice cream cone, one pickle, one slice of Swiss cheese, one slice of salami, Its your turn Chameleon! one lollipop, one piece of cherry pie, one sausage, one cupcake and one slice of watermelon. The next day was Sunday again. The caterpillar ate through one nice green leaf, and after that he felt much better. Now he wasn't hungry any more- and he wasn't a little caterpillar anymore. He was a big, fat caterpillar. He built a small house called a cocoon around himself. He stayed inside for more than two weeks. The he nibbled a hole in the cocoon, pushed his way out and....he was a beautiful butterfly! I've put butterfly on there. Look Butterfly is on.

I asked to watch my Maisy Mouse DVD in French so I did that too. After dinner I asked Äiti if I could do a few more experiments. We made a diver, some unfolding flowers and an airplane. After that I wanted to do some triathlons in the garden. We swam round the garden, then pretended to ride our bikes and then I ran fast to the finish line...I was very puffed out!

First open water swim

My friend Maya called and asked if I wanted to go to a County Park at the weekend, so I said yes and off we went. We went to a lake which had a beach (stony) area and a great sectioned off area for swimming in. I haven't swum in a lake before so it was a fun new experience. I took my woggle and had a great time. There was also a sandpit near the beach so I got to dig too. I also played on the climbing equipment. We all had a great day.

Today I went to Borders as they were having a 'Hungry Caterpillar' day. I used lots of crafty things to make and decorate a caterpillar. It was fun. After that we went to Tescos where I got a new colouring book. I also had a swimming lesson. Mrs Hippocampe (I've changed her name from Mrs Irritating) said I'd really improved and my confidence had grown. I only have one more thing to do before I can get my next badge. It will be a long time until I get my badge!

My Holiday in France

Äiti and I went to France last week and we had a brilliant time. Daddy joined us for the weekend but he had lots of work to do so could only stay 3 nights.

I loved playing on the beach, I even walked on it and touched the sand! This is a great achievement for me! I made lots of sand castles, paddled a bit in the sea and ran through all the puddles when the tide was out. I got to visit the zoo twice! I went once with Äiti and enjoyed it so much that I insisted that we take daddy too. I went to a great aquarium with daddy and then äiti discovered another one near the airport. We dropped daddy at the airport and went to one of the best aquariums ever! We'll take daddy next time!

I visited the house and gardens of Clemenceau, he was a French president that retired to the Vendee. He and his friend Monet (a painter) made a garden in the dunes so we went to look. I loved it though I don't think Äiti was too impressed!

I went for lots of bike rides and discovered a passion for hay bales. I am now a hay bale expert. I watched lots being made and spotted them everywhere! I also liked the fields of sunflowers. Every night we went for a walk around the village. I insisted on wearing my pjs for our nightly walks! I played a lot in the garden, ate out lots of times and had fun.

My French was really good, I was able to translate a lot of signs. I enjoyed reading the information signs at the zoo and aquarium. I could also pick my own dinner from the menus but I refused to speak French (or English) to anyone.

One day it was really hot so we went to a swimming pool. I really enjoyed that and even did a few new things like put my face in the water and float on my back! I will show my swim teacher next week.

I really wanted to write stories on the laptop when we were there, but Äiti wouldn't let me use it. In the end I wrote a book about my holiday, I am very proud of this book. If you click on each page, it should open so that you can read it.

Here are my holiday photos (about 1min30s).

A fun weekend...and another medal!

I discovered a great new place to visit- Butterfly World! I went there today with Daddy and Äiti. I loved watching the butterflies fluttering round. I was able to name quite a few which surprised Aiti and Daddy. There was also a mini-beast world which was also interesting. I got to see some farm animals too.

Butterfly World is located in a craft village so after looking round I decided I wanted to paint some pottery. That was a lot of fun. I chose a cat and a kitten and painted them using all the colours provided!

This evening I took part in a local fun run. It was a mile long and I did really well. I ran the mile in 13minutes. I am so proud of my finishers medal.
I have also discovered a love of colouring. In the past I have preferred to draw, but yesterday I decided to start colouring. I think I am quite good at it!

School's out for summer!

Yesterday was the last day of school, I now have 2 months off! We had a lovely 'end of term' party at 'Es' house. I preferred to draw and colour or sit on Äiti's knee rather than play with my friends.

This week I went to LegoLand again. It rained all day but I had a lot of fun. I really enjoyed the rollercoasters again but my favourite ride was called 'Extreme'. We had to ride down the water flumes in dinghy boats- it was fast and we got very wet.

I also had a swimming lesson this week. I only need to do a few more things before I get my next badge- I really want the next badge but I really don't want to do the two tasks. I told Äiti I'd just miss this badge out and do the next one- she said "no".

Today Val came over whilst Äiti and Daddy went out. I played with the playdough for hours and made lots of animals out of the stuff in the recycling bin. Before Val came over I wrote her a little story. I have now learnt how to use ClipArt. I like adding pictures, changing the size, adding borders and angling the pictures.

Being social!

I have been quite a social beastie this week! I had a great day at school on Friday as I came out of my shell a little! Whilst I was reading a book to my teacher, she asked me to read a little louder, so I started yelling the words at her...she found it very funny and told Äiti about it! Äiti was very pleased I was showing my true colours!

After school I went to 'E's' house. Her house is fantastic, I really liked it (as did Äiti)! We did some arty stuff, then both 'E' and I stripped off and ran through the sprinkler in the garden. That was a lot of fun! We then drove to Val's house as daddy was taking part in the village fun run. I helped him run the last bit as he was quite tired and needed my help! I didn't stop talking at Val's house either!

On Saturday we had an easy day. We went into Ask for lunch and then up to Borders. I was very tired from all the talking I'd done in the week so had a sleep on the way home.

Today, Äiti was running in a 'Race for Life' race. It was raining so much that I didn't see her finish- I was sheltering in the car. She did very well, finishing in the top 10 in a time she was pleased with. You can read her race report on her other blog!

After the race I went to a 4th birthday party. This was my first ever invite to a birthday party. We played lots of games like Musical Chairs, Musical Bumps, Pin the Tail on the Donkey etc. I ate quite a bit and really enjoyed myself. I planned my birthday party on the way home in the car. I would like an insect party with every girl in my class as they are all my friends.

Here is a story I wrote for my friend 'A'. I thought she'd like it as her bed time story! 'Bohns' is bones, 'sam' is swam, 'on' is own if you need some help!
